For Xbox One owners, Scalebound is a game to watch out for. It’s being developed exclusively for the console by Platinum Games, one of the hottest Japanese action developers working today. It features a campaign that tasks players with working with a massive dragon while battling, we assume, monsters and forces of evil.
After it’s gamescom 2015 presentation, which you see at the head of this post, we were super pumped. Even the screenshots look great.
Platinum Games Director Hideki Kamiya spoke with Metro about the upcoming title and its Xbox One exclusivity, and he’s clearly out to prove something for the console.
“So in terms of, say, Scalebound, which is an exclusive title for Xbox One, my ultimate goal and mission is that this will help appeal to, and also heighten the value, of not just my game but also the console, and show the power of what Xbox One can do.”
That’s exciting. Truly. Exclusives tend to bring out the best in systems, and I’d love to see the Xbox One shine with Scalebound running. It’s one of my most anticipated games for the platform.
That doesn’t take away from the fact that, so far, we’ve seen a rather poorly performing demo for the game. The gamescom 2015 clip at the head of this post shows a lot of framerate dropping, and that’s just not going to cut it in today’s hyper-sensitive climate.
Still, it’s early. Scalebound isn’t even due until 2016, so this code has a chance to be significantly cleaned up between now and then. Here’s hoping it runs beautifully.
