The Nextbit Robin has had a short shelf life so far. It only just launched earlier this year and although consumers who were excited about what the Robin had to offer likely wouldn’t be opposed to Nextbit doing another device, it’s a bit early for the company to dive into something completely new. Having said that, Nextbit held a live stream today on Facebook’s Live service, and during the stream (which can now be viewed as a regular video on their Facebook page) you can catch a glimpse at what looks like the Nextbit Robin in Red. This might immediately get people thinking that there is a new device already being worked on, but what’s also likely and perhaps more plausible, is that Nextbit may be preparing to offer a new color of the Robin in the near future.
Nextbit doesn’t appear to be going to any great lengths to hide the device from plain sight, which actually makes its way into frame numerous times throughout the video. Although the title of the live stream was labeled “July Sneak Peek with Nextbit,” the sneak peek is actually referring to Nextbit working on a web interface, but it’s entirely possible that the phone was placed there on purpose to get the consumers excited about a new color option. If this is a new color that will be available at some point, would it have the same exact specifications? Maybe, but it’s much too early to tell since a new color hasn’t been officially announced. It is possible, however, that it could end up with some slightly improved hardware.
Specs aside, without actually stating as much, Nextbit is hinting pretty heavily that a Red version of the Robin is on the way. In addition to the video where the phone can be seen a few times, Nextbit tweeted out a picture earlier this afternoon which shows a black Robin being covered in red paint. The Twitter image alone would be enough to get people talking, naturally, but when paired together with what can only be assumed is the real thing, consumers can probably expect to see a Red Nextbit Robin in the not so distant future. So, officially, Nextbit isn’t producing a Red model of the Robin. Unofficially, it would appear that they have at least one Red model floating around their offices, and one can’t dismiss the Twitter tease.
