With this new plugin, you can send files straight to your Kindle from your PC
If you own a PC, then good news! No, they haven’t managed to kill all viruses dead, but sending documents to your Kindle just got a little bit easier. “Send to Kindle” for PC is a new application that will send your personal documents off to your online Kindle device and Kindle Library.
From there, the documents are archived, and can be pulled down to any of your Kindle-enabled devices. Even better, the highlights and notes you make are also synced between your various Kindles. Thus you can send a Word document to your iPad, mark it up and then review the notes later on Kindle for your PC (note: this syncing doesn’t work with PDFs).
It works in two ways. In Windows Explorer, you can just rightclick a file and choose send from the menu. And in any application that can print, a new option is added to the print dialog. This will send the document in PDF format.
Send to Kindle is free, and a Mac version will be along soon. In the meantime, it’s pretty easy for a Mac owner to whip up a quick Services or print plugin using automator. Fire it up, set “Services receives selected” to “documents,” drag the “New Mail Message” to the right panel and add in your Send-to-Kindle e-mail address and pick a subject line. Save.
That’s it. right click and pick the service and a new mail will appear with your document(s) attached. Just hit send.
