Outside of maybe Dragon Quest, I can’t think of a video game franchise that keeps it more old-school than Shiren the Wanderer. The latest entry in Spike Chunsoft’s long-running series, Shiren the Wanderer: The Tower of Fortune and the Dice of Fate, still rocks the same 16-bit aesthetic that its founding Super Nintendo ancestors did, and the retro look suits the franchise perfectly.
It looks way better than some of the recent console attempts! Yeesh.
Aksys Games is publishing the latest game in the franchise on July 26 for the PS Vita, and those who pre-order can nab a special “Eternal Wanderer Edition” before it launches. This physical version includes:

While many have taken a liking to the name”rogue-light” in recent years, Shiren has been around far longer than the moniker, and it has far too much history to be labeled as something that’s kind of insulting to any game, really. “Rogue-like” is still totally acceptable in this game’s case, and those who would think to downplay its difficulty would do well to try it.
Shiren the Wanderer: The Tower of Fortune and the Dice of Fate launches on July 26 for the PS Vita.
