If science fiction has taught us anything, it’s that the cybernetic slaves we create today to do the jobs we’d rather not do ourselves will one day rise up against us, unleashing a whole new holocaust on mankind that sees the survivors scattered into the sewers and leaves the planet a scorched, radioactive, mutant-filled no man’s land of misery. The only way to avoid this? Shoot Many Robots…
Okay, as someone who obsesses over an OS called Android, I’m clearly no robotophobe – in fact I believe robots should have the right to marry just like non-robots – but I do take umbrage at the kind of killbots that come wielding chainsaws, hell-bent on slaughtering all-humans; which is why I heartily endorse this remorseless, relentless, endless robot-razing running app.
You play as P. Walter Tugnut, a hillbilly human who finds himself fleeing through farmland, armed only with a very large gun and facing a constantly on-coming onslaught of less than reasonable robots intent on making him dead. And it’s not just the metal menace that’s out to cause him life-retaining issues either – a farm is no place to play and, as such, there’s ample obstacles to avoid as he hurtles through the homestead, tapping to target the tin machines and hopping over the hurtry hurdles with precision timing.
With weapon upgrades available to grab as you go, Shoot Many Robots features some pretty cool and colourful 3D environments and pin-sharp HD graphics that enhance the all-action no-end. However, it’s not all automaton-eliminating excellence – the tap and tap control system is perhaps too simplistic and sometimes sluggishly responsive, causing Tugnut to end up impaled on something you’d judged to jump over perfectly one too many times.
THE BOTTOM LINE
A pure app enema of entertainment after all those physics puzzlers, Shoot Many Robots sadly suffers because of its control system. However, this can be overcome and if Demiurge were to update the app to address the issue, they’d have an all-round winner on their hands… and those damn droids wouldn’t stand a chance!
