An email was recently sent to us via The Droid Guy Mailbag which reads, “I keep getting the error message ‘SIM card not inserted’ and the phone will only make emergencycalls. The card is in. I have a Samsung Galaxy S4.”
The SIM Card Slot is Defective or Dirty
The usual culprit in the “SIM card not inserted” error is a hardware failure on the part of the phone. It is possible that the one or more sensors in its SIM card slot is defective or dirty. If the issue is just dirt, just remove the SIM card from its slot and simply blow an air directly into the area. This will likely remove any stuck foreign particles in its sensors. But if you suspect that the sensors are really defective, bring your Galaxy S4 to an authorized Samsung technician and have the faulty part repaired or replaced.
The SIM Card is Not Working
Restart your device and reinsert the SIM card. Ensure that it is positioned properly. If the issue persists, try inserting another SIM card in your phone to test whether the SIM card you are using is defective or not.
The Phone is Locked to a Specific Carrier
The “SIM card not inserted” error also occurs when you are using a SIM card not supported by your unit or when your phone is locked to another carrier. Confirm with the vendor of your phone if it is locked to a specific carrier. If it is locked, have it unlocked by a technician or you can use an unlocking product offered online.
There is a Software Problem
Start your Smartphone in Safe Mode. When doing so solves the problem, there might be a third-party app interfering with the normal function of your device. If this is the case, just remove the problematic app or perform a Factory Reset to solve any glitches in the system files.
On the other hand, if the issue still occurs under Safe Mode, then, there is definitely a hardware problem plaguing your device.
