If you use a Moto Z and had your sights set on a new slide-out keyboard Moto Mod for the handset, this week brings some bad news.
Despite the fact the Moto Mod was able to garner plenty of attention during its Indiegogo phase and even made an appearance at this year’s CES back in January, it looks like the accessory has been cancelled. The Livermorium team has published an update as of today, September 13, on its Indiegogo page that says the slide-out keyboard is dead, listing a few reasons as to why this is the end result of their hard work.
First and foremost, it looks like there weren’t enough retailers on board with the idea of actually selling the product to consumers. If that isn’t bad enough, Livermorium says that overall Moto Z sales are “low” and that it “did not receive any external financial support from any entity”. Which essentially translates to running out of cash to keep the project afloat.
Livermorium’s accessory won Motorola’s own “Transform the Smartphone” challenge, but even that appears to not have been enough to propel the slide-out keyboard accessory out of the development phase and into the real world as a product consumers can buy. It doesn’t look like we’ll see an accessory of this type anytime soon, either.
If you own a Moto Z and use Moto Mods, was this one of the accessories you’ve been looking forward to?
