With the advent of mobile email and services like WhatsApp, the humble text message has been all but forgotten, but there are still plenty of them being sent and if your workplace frowns on the use of personal mobiles in the office, you’ll find it tricky to avoid your line manager if you’re constantly checking your phone for texts.
SMS Diversion Pro promises to solve the issue… By simply forwarding your text messages to your email account. There’s a free version that allows you to forward to Gmail accounts only, while the full version lets you forward to any email address you fancy.
SMS Diversion has a few other strings to its bow, however. Imagine you’ve left your phone at home and you want to forward messages to another mobile, or you’ve turned off forwarding to your email and you need to remotely activate it. You simply text a preset phrase to your phone from any other handset (‘ON’ for example) and forwarding is instantly enabled. Be warned, though, the phrases are case sensitive, so if you’ve entered ‘ON’ in caps, you’ll need to text it in caps.
On first run, SMS DIversion asks for your Gmail account details and it’s from the settings menu that you can then set the app to forward to your preferred third-party email account. As mentioned earlier, this is a paid-for version feature and isn’t available in the free download.
As one final touch, SMS Diversion can also forward details of any missed calls you’ve received, complete with name (if they’re in your contacts book), number and time
The Bottom Line
Neat app that’s handy should you leave your phone at home or even lose it (temporarily). It works fine, but we’d rather it was ad-served than paid-for…
