We’ve all seen shows about the trials and tribulations of running zoos and wildlife parks on TV, and some of you may have even seen the seminal Matt Damon and Scarlett Johansson vehicle We Bought A Zoo, but none has successfully portrayed the savage reality of animal-collection management; until now…
Who would have ever believed, way back in our school days, that one day we’d ever be describing physics as being fun? Sat on some uncomfortable wooden stool while a monotone old man waffled on about Wave Theory? Not me. But the ascent of the app has transformed this sober old subject into an elaborate array of entertainment that teaches more about gravity and cause and effect than any laborious lecture could tell you. Take this latest addition to the Android physics experience for example, a game all about the effects of gravity on a side-scrolling speeding truck full of fluffy animals as it careens to get them to captivity.
And that’s the basic premise – you hurtle along, tapping the screen on the left and right to accelerate or slow, collecting as many mammals as you can to smuggle safely to the zoo, whilst tilting the screen to ensure your truck stays the right way up as it bounces and ramps along some seriously rough terrain, as quickly as possible.
A hugely inventive app, types of terrain vary wildly, whilst the likes of rocket boosters, cargo cover, roadkill and other assists and obstacles keep the challenges fresh and unexpected. Add to that an exacting physics engine for realistic results, excellent animation and delightfully detailed backdrops over, literally, loads of levels and whether they meant to call it ‘Smuggle’ rather than ‘Snuggle’ Truck or not, the addictive entertainment factor remains the same.
THE BOTTOM LINE
Fast, fun and full of furry things, Snuggle Truck is animal-collecting action all the way, making the so-called ‘drama’ in all those aforementioned zoo-keeping documentaries look completely trivial by comparison. Yes, even those encountered in oddly non-Oscar-nominated We Bought A Zoo…
