Over the past year, you might have heard about the solar technology that Intivation has been creating for various solar-powered products. At last year’s Mobile World Congress, they partnered with Umeox to create the Apollo, a solar-powered Android phone. At this year’s MWC, Intivation has teamed up with A-Solar to create a docking station for the iPad that uses only solar power. The same Sunboost 3 Smart Cell technology that went into the Apollo has gone into the Power Dock for iPad, meaning solid performance on even cloudy days should be possible. This travel dock, on display at MWC 2012 right now, actually works with all iOS devices, not just the iPad.
That’s exciting news, considering the significant drain existing chargers put on electricity suppliers. The state of California recently passed tougher standards on those wall chargers as a result of that drain, and nothing would help the cause of conserving power more than affordable, functional solar chargers. Keep an eye out for more information and pricing and availability in the near future.
