Problem #1: Galaxy Note 4 Home page keeps showing old location
My phone will not update my location. The main page shows “Orlando FL” and I have not been there for 4 days. I deleted my location history and for a few hours, the “Orlando FL” went away but it has reappeared. I have done a soft reset, that did not help. — Robin
Solution: Hi Robin. Try clearing the phone’s cache partition to ensure that a new cache is used by apps. To do this, just follow the following steps:
Turn off the Galaxy Note 4 completely.
Press and hold the Volume Up and the Home keys together, then press and hold the Power key.
When the Note 4 vibrates, release both the Home and Power keys but continue holding the Volume Up key.
When the Android System Recovery shows on the screen, release the Volume Up key.
Using the Volume Down key, highlight the option wipe cache partition and press the Power key to select it.
When the wiping of the cache partition is finished, highlight Reboot system now and hit the Power key.
After deleting the cache, make sure that Location History and Location Reporting are properly configured. If you previously opted in to these services, some apps associated with them may be causing the erratic behavior. Depending on your preference, you can either enable or disable both under Google Settings>Google Location Reporting.
Problem #2: Missing notification icon behavior after updating Galaxy Note 4 to Lollipop
With the new Samsung Galaxy Note 4 update just out, why don’t we have the number marker on incoming messaging and email icons anymore? You would have a red circle with a number or amount of incoming / icon on your home screen. Now you just have a little white envelope or M marker in the upper left hand corner with no indications of either messaging or email amount with several steps to retrieve them. It was so nice to open your phone to your home page and see the bright red marker over the appropriate icon and immediately goIt was. Is there any help or solution for this? Thank you. Solution: Hi Don. The new Android Lollipop has brought a lot of changes including new notification system behaviors. The feature you are missing here has been removed to make way for new behaviors consistent with the theme in Lollipop called material design so there’s no way we can bring it back.
Problem #3: Synced LinkedIn account causes many duplicate contacts
I have multiple copies of some contacts and I can’t delete them. They appear to be getting caused by LinkedIn.
I have tried turning off the LinkedIn contacts sync but it doesn’t remove the duplications. I’m still left with 666 copies of a single person. It says I can’t remove the contacts from read-only accounts.
Any tips on cleaning them out?
It makes my phone slow to respond due to this duplication.

Solution: Hi Tim. Read-only accounts are generated if you sync the contacts of your other accounts from other services like LinkedIn, Skype, Twitter, etc. They cannot be removed and can only be hidden. If you have hundreds of these contacts, you have no other way but to hide them individually, unless you want to wipe the phone clean and start anew.
Problem #4: Galaxy Note 4 email app deletes copies of email after they are read
I have 2 issues:
BBC iPlayer/and The FA apps- when I play a program the screen is black and nothing is shown
My email, when downloaded delete after I read them. I want to keep them. — Richard
Solution: Hi Richard. If some of your apps are not working properly, the first thing that you can do is to delete their cache and data. Doing these solutions will help ensure that new and updated cache are not getting in the way when the operating system attempts to launch these apps. Alternatively, you can also follow the steps provided above on how to delete the cache partition.
For your second concern, make sure that you checked or enabled, under your email account settings, the option that tells the server to keep a copy of your mails. This is one of the common reasons why an email does not stay in one’s inbox after reading it.
The most common cause for a problem like yours though may stem from the fact that you chose a different email type when you configure your account. We recommend that you remove your email account from your device, then add it again. Make sure that you use IMAP as server type for this newly configured account to ensure that your device will have a copy of your messages. IMAP lets messages to be stored in both your email server and device/s.
Problem #5: Opening an app or unlocking the Galaxy Note 4 directs to a web page or internet
Ok, I have two issues. The first is about 4 to 5 times a day, out of nowhere, a notification pops up telling me my SIM card is not detected and my device has to be restarted to fix it. I have taken my SIM out and cleaned it many times and it isn’t scratched or damaged. What could be the cause of this as it is very annoying.
The second problem is when I open my text app or go into my contacts, or even just unlocking my phone, it will pop up a Web page or go to the internet. I feel like this all would be an easy fix but I’m not to savvy when it comes to things like this. If you’re able to help it would be appreciated. Thanks! — Brian
Solution: Hi Brian. The first issue may be hardware in nature. By that, we mean the SIM card slot in the phone may not be working properly like it used to. Try using a different SIM card for at least 24 hours to see if the problem comes back. If you can’t replicate the issue using a different SIM card, try to narrow the factors down further as there’s a possibility that this may also be SIM card-related. Consider switching to a new SIM card. We have not heard of any firmware-related reasons to cause this trouble but if you think hardware is not to blame, a factory reset may help. If you haven’t tried to do a factory reset before, simply follow these steps:
From the Home screen, tap the Apps icon.
Launch Settings and scroll to User and Backup section.
Tap Backup and reset.
If you want, you can tick the checkboxes next to Automatic restore and Back up my data.
Tap Factory data reset.
Touch Reset device.
You may be asked to enter your PIN or Password.
Tap Continue and then Delete all.
Doing a factory reset wipes everything that’s stored in your phone’s internal memory (but not in your SD card) so make sure your personal data have back up copies.
The second problem may also be resolved by doing a factory reset but should you decide not to do it, deleting the cache partition may suffice. The steps how to delete the cache partition are shown above.
Problem #6: Galaxy Note 4 getting “unable to download due to error 927″ messaging when downloading an app
I am trying to download some gaming apps from the app store and at first it seems fine. I get the usual messages to accept, Wi-Fi or proceed and I choose proceed. Then it says waiting for network for about 30 seconds. Then I get an error message saying “unable to download do to error 927″. I did go into settings and apps and app manager and forced stop, cleared cache and restarted device but same message. I did a factory reset didn’t help. Please help if you can, thank you. — Krystal
Solution: Hi Krystal. Error 927 appears to be a Google account or Google Play Store app problem. We are not certain which is which as Google is mum about it. While the true nature of this error may not be determined for certain, there have been a few effective workarounds.
If deleting Google Play Store’s cache and data did not help, try removing your Google account from the said app then add it again.
Another good thing to do here is to ensure that Google Play Store app is running the most recent update available.
Problem #7: Galaxy Note 4 Netflix app lags when used
While watching Netflix every few minutes. The screen seems to lag just for a second but it’s there. I’ve seen message boards regarding the issue but nothing seems to help. My fiance is having the same problem but not as frequently. The sound stays in sync but the lag is there. Is there anything I can do to avoid this from happening? — Nathon
Solution: Hi Nathon. Your concern may be due to either an app issue or slow connection problem. The first thing that you must do is to ensure that your phone is connected to a stable internet connection when using the Netflix app. If you are using mobile data, call your carrier and tell them about the issue so they can help you troubleshoot it. Some internet service providers put bandwidth limitations on streaming via mobile data so make sure this is not the reason. If you can connect to a known, reliable and fast Wi-Fi network, try doing it and see the difference.
The next best thing to do is to ensure that there’s no app-related issue. Re-installing Netflix app may help. Once you have installed the app again, try to replicate the problem. If the issue remains, contact the developer of the app, or perhaps Netflix support for more assistance.
Note: Contacting Netflix support or the app developer is needed if other apps in your device works fine.
Problem #8: Emoji button on Galaxy Note 4 keyboard does not work
When pressing on emoji button, nothing happens. I have to access the menu manually by long pressing the microphone button. I reset the input keyboard and did a soft reset. Nothing. I updated the software, still nothing. It worked fine 2 days ago.
Additionally, when in apps like Amazon or Chrome, clicking the back button causes the browser to jump back two pages. Oddly enough, I’m having the same problem in Chrome on my PC. I’d say it’s a Chrome glitch if it weren’t happening in other apps. — Olivia
Solution: Hi Olivia. Try deleting the phone’s cache partition first and observe the phone for at least a day. Abnormal app behaviors are mostly caused by faulty or outdated cache so forcing the phone to generate a new cache may help here.
Problem #9: Text-to-speech randomly opens by itself in Galaxy Note 4
My text-to-speech app has been randomly opening up. I don’t say “Hi Galaxy”. It just opens randomly throughout the day even when I’m playing a game, using other apps, making a phone call, texting. I looked to see if you had a fix for it but couldn’t find it. — Sarah
Solution: Hi Sarah. Deleting the app’s cache and data may help. If the problem remains after deleting the app’s data, consider disabling it. If you recently installed an update for Google Text-to-Speech engine, consider uninstalling the updates to see the difference.
