Many of us look at challenges and look for the greater benefit of them. Does this get me somewhere? Will I lose weight? Make money? Some people, though, they just go after them because they’re there.
Like the gamer who goes by Shutterbug2000, who managed to get Windows 95 running on a New Nintendo 3DS.
With a quad core processor and 256MB of RAM, the New Nintendo 3DS should be more than equipped to handle the load, though the system’s lower 400 x 240 resolution makes it a less than optimal experience.
As Kotaku points out, the forum post on GBATemp that his originates from is full of chatter about getting old Windows 95 and DOS games running on the tiny handheld. It’s certainly a real possibility, though it’s hard to say how well many of those experiences would work on the smaller screen.
Even if nothing like that ever comes to fruition, any accomplishment like this is good for the homebrew community around a system. Windows 95 on a 3DS may not ever be useful, but it’s pretty neat.
