Two years ago, just months before the iPad and long before Honeycomb, Sony announced it’s own tablet, the Sony Dash. Today it seems that the Sony is dashing its dreams of success for the Chumby OS tablet.
A developer that has signed up to create apps for the Justin Bieber-backed Dash, an email was sent out today that spelled the doom for the Dash developers website. The message soon appeared on the website, and it reads:
Beginning February 29th, 2012, the Sony Dash developer website will close and no longer support development of new applications. This closure includes the Dash developer forum and Dash developer support, which will close on March 31st. Sony Dash applications will remain available. Thank you for your contributions and we encourage you to continue your development activity on Sony’s other platforms available at SonyDeveloper.com
Again, thank you very much,
Sounds like Sony has all but given up on the Sony Dash. That doesn’t mean that the tablet itself is dead, but it certainly seems likely. Sony has shifted its focus to Android, which doesn’t leave much room for the Dash. Maybe we’ll see an Android version of the Dash in the future, but for now it seems the Chumby OS is all but dead.
