Sony started rolling out Android 5.0 Lollipop to the Xperia Z3, Xperia Z3 Compact and the Xperia Z3 Tablet Compact a couple of weeks ago. However that was only in a couple of markets. Today, Sony has announced that they are continuing that rollout into more countries. However, they haven’t mentioned which countries those are. I’d put money on them including the rest of Europe though. While the US awaits the carriers testing and then their own rollout. Sony also stated that the Xperia Z2 and Xperia Z2 Tablet will be getting their update – in further markets worldwide – beginning next week.
While Sony is a bit late to the Lollipop update game, it’s better late then never, I guess. Sony did say that they’d have these updates out in the beginning of the year. But obviously they can’t see bugs and other issues ahead of time. Considering Google, as well as the carriers have to certify these updates, the delays aren’t always in Sony’s hands, or any other manufacturers hands. Sony’s Lollipop update looks amazing, and from those that have already gotten the update, we’ve heard nothing but great things. So hopefully that will continue for Sony. The earlier rollout seemed like a slow rollout for Sony, only pushing it out to a handful of devices to see whether or not it was buggy before it was pushed to everyone.
This morning, Sony also announced that the Xperia T2 Ultra and C3 will be getting updates to Android 5.0 Lollipop. So if you own either of those devices, you should be getting an update soon. However, we are unsure of how soon that might be. If you want to stay up to date with the latest Sony Xperia software updates, be sure to follow them on Twitter. As for the US variants of the Xperia Z3, Xperia Z3v and the Xperia Z2 Tablet, it looks like we’ll be waiting a bit longer. So far, according to T-Mobile’s website, Sony is still testing the firmware for the Xperia Z3, while the Xperia Z3v and Xperia Z2 Tablet are both on Verizon’s network, so that will likely take much longer to get out the door, unfortunately.
