Sony Mobile has recently snagged the Guinness World Record for “the largest animated mobile phone mosaic.”
The company gathered no less than 196 smartphones to make a wall that measures 1.90 m (6 ft 2 in) by 1.03 m (3 ft 4 in), with a surface area of 1.95 square meters (21 ft² 9 in²). the wall was assembled last month in Barcelona, during MWC 2013.
Sony mentions in this blog post that the smartphones used were Xperia Z units. However, the Guinness website says there were Xperia ZL handsets, and the available photos pretty much confirm this – the ZL is a bit different from the Z thanks to its narrower bezel.
The Sony Xperia ZL is already available in some European markets. It’s going to be launched in the US soon (apparently via AT&T), as well as in Canada (where Rogers, Bell and Videotron are all going to sell it starting this month).
Just like the Xperia Z, the ZL runs Android 4.1 Jelly Bean (upgradeable to 4.2, and most likely also to 5.0 Key Lime Pie). Its features include a 5 inch Full HD (1920 x 1080 pixels) display with Mobile Bravia Engine 2, Timescape UI, LTE connectivity, HSPA, dual-band Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n, Bluetooth 4.0, 13MP rear camera with dedicated button, 2MP front-facing camera, 2GB of RAM, dual-core 1.5GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon processor, 16GB of RAM, and MicroSD card support.
