November 2013 was a month that gamers around the world were anxiously waiting for. It was in November when the Sony PlayStation 4 and Microsoft Xbox One were released. Both consoles went on sale in select markets at first before gradually landing in additional markets throughout the year. To commemorate its first anniversary Sony has published an infographic online which shows how the PS4 has performed in its first year. The infographic reveals that Sony has shipped 13.5 million units of the PlayStation 4 worldwide.
Sony’s infographic also shows that over 1 billion hours have been spent playing the PS4 online, with gamers collectively pressing the Share button 530 million times. Since the launch of this console a 270 increase in PlayStation Plus membership has been registered, with the total number of subscribers now coming in at 7.8 million.
The company also claims that PS4 hardware sales generated the most revenue in the U.S. during its first year alone than any other new gaming platform, an obvious reference to the Xbox One.
Sony enters the holiday numbers with pretty strong numbers and it will be interesting to see how it comes out after the shopping craze dies down.
