Clearly, the first rival device to spring to mind for most people is Sony’s PS4 – and Microsoft’s cross-network aspirations require some commitment from Sony to work with the company and game developers to bring the plan to life.
However, Sony’s response to GameSpot when asked if it would consider working with Redmond is of the non-committal and shade-throwing variety:
“PlayStation has been supporting cross-platform play between PC on several software titles starting with Final Fantasy 11 on PS2 and PC back in 2002.
We would be happy to have the conversation with any publishers or developers who are interested in cross platform play.”
Is it just me, or does that sound a little like, “we’ve been doing this sh*t for years, don’t go acting like this is your idea”?
Either way, as a PS4 owner, I’m really hoping that the two companies can find a middle-ground, else it’ll only be the gamers who lose out.
