It looks like AT&T’s Xperia Ion isn’t Sony’s only new smartphone that’s going to be officially launched in the US. Brightstar, one of the largest American wireless distributors, announced that it would bring the latest Xperia smartphones to the US – including the Xperia S, Xperia U, and Xperia P models. However, although Brightstar prides itself with the “ability to deliver products to national and regional operators,” it didn’t say when exactly, an neither via what carriers the smartphones would be released.
So, until we hear some solid info on this, we just can’t be sure that the Xperia S, P and U will actually make it to the shelves. Anyway, let’s hope that by the time the handsets reach the US, they will receive updates to Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich.
Since Sony bought Ericsson’s share in the Sony Ericsson joint-venture to form Sony Mobile Communication, the company clearly wants to expand its market share in the mobile world – and a strong presence in the US could definitely help it do that.
The latest Xperia smartphone officially launched in the US is the Xperia Play, introduced by both Verizon and AT&T last year (without too much success, though).
