The Sony Xperia Z3 Compact has been running Android 5.0 Lollipop for some time now, but it has finally received Android 6.0 Marshmallow via a beta release from Sony. Read on for all the latest Xperia Z3 Compact Android update news below.
Sony Xperia Z3 Compact Android 6.0 Marshmallow update
Sony announced in a blog post that the FTF firmware file for the Android 6.0 Marshmallow build is now available for all Xperia Z3 Compact (D5803) devices. The announcement should come as welcome news to owners who didn't get their hands on Marshmallow during the concept beta program.
Sony Xperia Z3 Compact Android Lollipop update
Earlier this year, an official Sony blog post announced that Android 5.0 would be rolling out to the Xperia Z3 Compact and Xperia Z3 from March 16, right on schedule according to previous leaks and official announcements. While the update arrived first to the Baltic and Nordic regions of Europe, the update hit the rest of the continent soon after, along with US carriers. US carriers AT&T, Verizon, Sprint and T-Mobile all pushed our Xperia Z3 Compact updates during the year.
It's worth noting that Sony upgraded its devices to Android 5.0 rather than to 5.0.1 or 5.0.2, which came as a disappointment to those who followed the growing list of Android 5.0 Lollipop problems.
It may not come as a surprise that Sony is one of the last manufacturers to get the update out to its flagship handsets. Sony's smartphone sales have been dwindling for years, prompting Sony CEO Kazuo Hirai to state that he "wouldn't rule out an exit strategy" for Sony's mobile division, and that it might not be making phones past 2018.
Until that day occurs, we'll keep you up-to-date with the latest Sony update news. Let us know in the comments below, after you receive the update, if it was worth the wait.
