There are two kinds of people to whom SportsTap is an essential app. The first species are those who genuinely love sports, so much so that their weekends revolve around a series of live and televised events where various athletes hurl themselves, and usually a ball of some sort, around their playing field of choice. Then there’s the second species of ‘sports fan’ who hate anything involving physical exertion but perversely don’t want to be left out of all the post-match chatter. Whether you’re a Lonely Island man or a member of the IT Crowd, SportsTap most certainly has you covered.
While apps like Goal.com Mobile and ATP/WTA Live do an excellent job of covering individual sports, SportsTap covers almost every arena where athletes go head to head against each other. The app’s definition of what makes a ‘proper’ sport is a bit strange given snooker and cricket aren’t included but the NASCAR Truck series is. Still, forgiving our Yankee cousins for their terrible taste, pretty much everything else you’d want an instant statistical update on is included.
Navigation around the app is simple using a dull but functional menu system. In fairness, the man who makes live scores an interesting Android experience deserves a medal of the kind they hand out at the end of Star Wars. It’s the scores that count above anything else and they’re both present and timely with alerts available to signify when Arsenal FC are being spanked for the fifth week running.
For those who want to login more often than every Saturday, SportsTap also does a very decent line in news and picture galleries with the top stories covered for whatever sport you follow. Considering the app is a free download, it’s an extremely impressive offering, even if you have no intention of using it other than to fit in down the pub.
The Bottom Line
Free live scores for every sport imaginable, ace stuff!
