After publishing hundreds of posts on many #GalaxyS5 issues over the past two years, we are still surprised by some unusual problems on this particular device. Below are some of these issues we find not-so-common in this flagship phone. We hope that we are of help to many Android users looking for similar solutions.

Problem #1: Android update on Galaxy S5 went over 100%
Samsung Galaxy S5 Active with AT&T.
Hello, this morning as I walked into work my phone automatically connected to the Wi-Fi here and began installing the Lollipop 5.1.1 update on its own. I placed my phone on my desk and waited for update completion. I glanced down at my device about 30 minutes later and the update was at 99%. I assumed my device would restart and finish installing the update once at 100%. About 5 minutes after seeing the update at 99% I checked the progress once again and notice the update was at 107%. Thinking maybe a small glitch of some sort I will just wait. I waited another 15 minutes and checked the progress to find the update at 155% (It blew my mind so I took a screen shot of it if yall would like to see it lol) I googled the results on the computer to find absolutely zero information about this and I have not seen anyone posting a similar issue.
I then turned my phone off and then back on again. Once powered back on my phone had a message pop-up saying all software is up to date. I went into my Settings>About device and the Android version reads “5.1.1”.
I got to software updates and check for updates but I get a message telling me I have to wait 14hrs 30 minutes to check for an update. My question is did my update not only download but install completely? — Taylor
Solution: Hi Taylor. This is the first time to hear of the situation you just described ourselves so we cannot say for certain if the phone did download and install the update completely. While there are a few apps in the Play Store that can record update logs for apps, no such apps exists that can track the history of an Android update. If you did not take note of the previous OS version, there’s just no way for you to know if the latest update did go successfully.
Consider checking for updates in the coming weeks again and if you’re lucky, your carrier may roll out Android Marshmallow by then.
Problem #2: Sprint Galaxy S5 homescreen freezes when switching between apps | Some apps located in SD card move to internal storage device after an update | Waze app not working properly
Hi. I have a Sprint Galaxy S5 SM-G900P running Lollipop 5.0.
It seems that my phone every half hour or so, when switching from an app back to the home screen, freezes and then reloads/refreshes the homescreen as opposed to just going straight into it. This refresh/reload last usually around 15-30 seconds but is very annoying. How can this be fixed?
Also, everytime I update an app that is on my SD card through the Play Store, it puts the app back into the main memory as opposed to updating it in the SD card. How can i have it update so i don’t have to keep moving it from main memory to SD card?
I use Waze every day to travel. I noticed about once a week the location gets lost and messes me up. This makes me have to restart the phone to get the location back. This causes me to have to pull over on the road which can be very dangerous. Please can you provide a solution to fix this.

Solution: Hi Steve. To try and fix all three concerns you have, wiping the cache partition is necessary. If this procedure won’t work on any of them, we’ll give you more suggestions. App and system updates can sometimes mess the cache partition resulting to abnormal app and device behavior. Keeping the system cache up-to-date may not only fix your issues but is also a recommended maintenance procedure that can be done every few months. If you haven’t tried wiping the cache partition on an S5 before, here are the steps:
Turn off your Galaxy S5 by holding the power button down until the screen darkens.
Once it’s completely off, simultaneously press and hold the Power, Home and Volume Up buttons.
Release the Power button once you feel the phone vibrates once. Keep pressing on the Home and Volume Up buttons until the boot menu appears on the screen.
Scroll down to the wipe cache partition option using the Volume Down key and select it using the Power button.
Once it’s done, choose reboot system now in order to get back to the phone’s normal boot.
If the first issue is not fixed by wiping the cache partition, the next best thing to do is to boot the phone in safe mode. Doing so will help you determine if one of your third party apps is to blame. While safe mode is enabled, all third party applications will be prevented from loading. If the issue fails to occur, start uninstalling apps until the source of the problem is removed from the system. Here are the steps to do that:
Turn the device off.
Press and hold the Power key.
When ‘Samsung Galaxy S5′ appears on the screen, release the Power key.
Immediately after releasing the Power key, press and hold the Volume down key.
Continue to hold the Volume down key until the device finishes restarting.
Safe mode will display in the bottom left corner of the screen.
Release the Volume down key when you see Safe Mode.
Try to put the phone in safe mode for at least a few hours so you can see the difference when opening or loading apps.
Your second concern should not bother you. Some apps are designed to work to its optimum performance while being stored in the phone’s primary storage device and not on an SD card. There’s no way for an average user to prevent such apps from relocating to primary storage. Examples of these apps include email apps, security apps, some productivity apps, as well as some game apps.
For the third issue, make sure that you delete the cache and data of Waze. Here’s how:
Go to Settings.
Proceed to Applications.
Select Manage Applications.
Tap the All tab.
Look for Waze app and tap it.
From there, you will see the Clear Cache and Clear Data buttons.
The Clear Cache option is works similarly to wiping the cache partition. While the latter applies to a broader set of items in the system, wiping an app’s cache is only limited to a specific cache of an app. Every app creates its own cache so it loads faster when the operating system tries to load it next time. Sometimes, an app cache can get corrupted just like the cache partition. This can lead to all sorts of issues. Refreshing it from time to time may help fix a problem specific to an app.
An app also stores other information or data like user profiles, settings, progress, customizations, to mention a few. Such set of information or data can also get corrupted so deleting them can sometimes work wonders for an app-related problem. Although clearing the data is more effective than simply clearing the cache, it has a huge trade off. Doing this will set your app to its default settings or to its original state like when you first installed it. Its effect is similar to uninstalling and reinstalling the app cleanly. So, make sure that you do the earlier solution before proceeding to clear your app data.
Now, if the procedures above won’t change anything, the most effective solution that you can do at this point is to simply restore the phone software to its default. This can be done by performing a factory reset. Before you proceed, be sure to create a copy of your photos, videos, contacts, etc. These are steps to do a factory reset on a Galaxy S5:
Power down the Galaxy S5.
Press and hold the Volume up button, the Home button, and the Power button together until you see the Android on screen.
Use Volume down to highlight the wipe data/factory reset option and press the Power button to select it.
Use Volume down again to highlight Yes – delete all user data and press Power to select it.
Use the Power button to select Reboot system now.
When the S5 restarts it should be completely wiped and ready to set up again.
Problem #3: Galaxy S5 Google Play Store error code 963 when installing updates
Hello. My issue is in relation to the Google Play Store. One day not long ago, I went to download an app and would get error code 963. I checked out the troubleshooting (reset your router, reset phone etc) and it was just the usual stuff which did not work. Took me a bit but I narrowed it down to an SD card type of issue because when I remove the SD card from the phone, I can download and update with no issues. Once the card is back in, it will not work. I’ve tried a different SD card (formatted and all) but to no avail. I’ve gone through and deleted all apps that I had download prior to this occurrence and I’m still having the problem. Any help on this would be greatly appreciated and get back to me when you can.

Solution: Hi Justin. We’ve noticed Play Store error code 963 mentioned in some third party forums before but there were never any reports from our readers about it so we assumed that Google may had fixed it. Apparently not.
Anyway, the error code appears to occur when a certain Google Play Store app version tries to write something on an SD card. We recommend that you wipe the cache and data of your Google Play Store app first (steps provided above). You can also do Uninstall updates if the problem remains afterwards.
If the problem persists after wiping the cache and data and re-installing the app update, kindly contact Google technical support team. The more people reports this error, the faster it will be resolved.
Problem #4: Galaxy S5 “recovery is not seandroid enforcing” error
I was setting the alarm on my phone when the screen stopped responding. When I pressed the power button it brought up the power off popup but I could not turn it off because the screen would not respond. So I held down the power button until it turned off then when I went to turn it back on. It would not boot up. It was stuck at the Samsung screen. It would stay there for about 8-10 seconds then go black and try again over and over until I took out the battery. Now that is all it will do.
I tried to boot to recovery mode, but it gets stuck there too. In the top left corner it says recovery booting…recovery is not seandroid enforcing and set warranty bit: recovery but then it reboots again.
If I am not holding the buttons it tries to reboot normally. The phone has not been dropped or gotten wet and has been in a protective case. — Melanie
Solution: Hi Melanie. “Recovery is not seandroid enforcing …” error only comes up if an attempt to flash a ROM or custom recovery fails. If you tried doing this prior to noticing the problem, make sure that follow the steps provided by the developer correctly. Removing the battery, booting the phone in download/Odin mode, and flashing a stock/custom ROM should do the trick.
Problem #5: Galaxy S5 won’t install apps
Recently, I’ve run into storage issues on my phone. I’ve cleared the cache, uninstalled apps, tried connecting/disconnecting with the Wi-fi — nothing worked. So I figured the problem might be solved by getting a larger microSD card. I bought a 64 GB to replace my 2 GB. I moved all files manually with the USB cord from the 2GB onto my PC in a separate folder. Then I moved those files onto the larger 64 GB. Unfortunately, during this back and forth process, I forgot to unmount both cards before removing them. Every other app (Pinterest, Kindle, Nook) reinstalled and worked fine, except for my game apps (Lara Croft: Relic Run, Grim Fandango Remastered). I thought to erase the corrupted information on both cards, but now no game apps will install on my phone. What should I do? The same error code pops up, but the troubleshoot solutions Google Play offers are no good. — Anidxa
Solution: Hi Anidxa. It would have been helpful if you include the exact error message in your problem description. We can’t pinpoint the exact issue if we don’t know where to start in our diagnosis. Anyway, we think you can fix the issue by reformatting the SD card using your phone, and doing a factory reset. Any of these two procedures should work.
We’ve had some few cases in that past wherein booting in safe mode helped so you might also want to try that before installing any of the problem apps. Please refer to the troubleshooting steps mentioned above for guidance.
