Free devices don’t generally exist anymore. With the mobile industry shifting to include no contract plans and the ability to break up your phone’s full cost in payments over your bill, discounted devices are becoming a thing of the past, and free phones are few and far between. Even when consumers do find a free phone, they generally aren’t the latest devices and especially not those in the high-end tier. Sprint is doing away with this notion by preparing to launch the Samsung Galaxy S6 for “free” with the inclusion of the $ 80 Unlimited Plus plan.
Yes, there are a couple of caveats. The first thing is the most obvious, the Galaxy S6 is not completely free. The downpayment is free for qualified new and existing customers who set up the Unlimited Plus plan, where with other carriers consumers will be looking at an upfront cost around $25 plus, with the rest broken up over the bill. The second thing is that customers have to be qualified, and naturally there will be some customers that won’t be eligible for that pricing. The $80 monthly cost includes unlimited minutes, text, and data as well as the $20 monthly payment for the Galaxy S6 in the 32GB model. Sprint will be selling the 64GB and 128GB models as well, and customers can pick those up for free in the same regard as described above, bumping the Unlimited Plus plan up to $85 a month or $90 a month for the 64GB and 128GB models of the Galaxy S6 respectively.
For consumers who fancy the Galaxy S6 Edge over the Galaxy S6, Sprint is offering up the 32GB model for just $5 upfront, and then $85 a month which includes all the same details as listed above, which is unlimited talk, text, and data alongside the $20 a month for the device over a 24 month period. Sprint didn’t forget about families either. They will have a deal running that will allow a family of four to lease a Galaxy S6 for each line, with unlimited talk and text and a shared data bucket of 20GB for just $200 a month, with an optional $10 a month gaining each line an annual upgrade. In addition to this, Boost Mobile will be carrying the Galaxy S6 32GB model in black sapphire starting April 10th for $649.99.
