We're hearing from Strategy Analytics again and this time, we have information on the research firm's assessment of the latest Xperia Z5 phones compared with many of its rivals in the market today. The test was conducted last July and August and Sony is proud to announce how the Xperia Z5 did well in comparison to others.
According to Strategy Analytics, the new Sony Xperia Z5 has the highest resolution and most light sensitive camera offering the best camera experience, most stable video capture, and fastest autofocus in a leading smartphone today, as per the latest assessment. All these descriptions are impressive and we're not really surprised because the Xperia Z5 flagships boast of a 23 megapixel rear-facing cam. It's the highest so far in smartphones introduced this year.
Note that several Sony devices hold the top ranks: Sony Xperia Z3, Z3 Compact, Xperia Z2, Xperia Z1, Z1 Compact—all models have 20.7MP cameras. The Meizu MX4 is included because it also has a 20.7MP cam. These phones are followed by the HTC One M9, Nokia Lumia 930,Samsung Galaxy Note 4/Edge, and LG G4.
Strategy Analytics has a list of 100 top selling phones of 2015 based on shelf share. The Xperia Z5 phones' light sensitivity (ISO) is also the highest at 12800, tied with the Sony Xperia Z3 and Z3 Compact.
The Nokia Lumia 930 trailed far behind with 4000. More Sony Xperia phones followed by with only 3200 ISO. Interestingly, the list features mostly Sony and Nokia devices. We only see only different: the Vivo Y13.
When it comes to camera experience, it's hard to judge that one because it can be very subjective. Sony claims that the new Z5 devices give the "Best Image Quality in a Leading Smartphone" and that about a third of consumers prefer images taken by the new Z5 and Z5 Compact, even in low-light conditions. They were compared to photos captured by other premium flagship phones: Samsung Galaxy S6, Galaxy Note 4, LG G4, Apple iPhone 6, iPhone 6 Plus, and HTC One M9.
The assessment conducted was more of a survey asking participants to rate the images. Different scenarios were captured by the phones mentioned and then images were printed and then rated. Strategy Analytics says more consumers rated Sony Xperia Z5/Z5 Compact images as good--average of 3.6 out of 5. More than half of the sample (58%), rated the images as Good or Very Good (4/5 and 5/5).
When it comes to checking the stability of video capture, a special video was recorded using different phone models and then rated once again. More than 80% rated the video as very stable. When it comes to auto focus speed, Strategy Analytics did a specific series of test to measure the distance between the subject and camera and the time "taken for each device to launch camera and to autofocus”.
