Become the ultimate weapon! The original ninja assassin is back. Developed by Double Helix Games, in conjunction with Capcom, the Strider reboot releases today across North America as a $14.99 digital download title on PSN (PlayStation 4, PlayStation 3) and tomorrow on Xbox Live (Xbox One, Xbox 360) and PC (Steam).
Featuring the same franchise hallmarks that fans will remember, Strider will amaze with fluid, lightening quick side scrolling combat and free-flowing traversal through the expansive interconnected metropolis of Kazakh City. As Strider, players will face a myriad of baddies that they can slice through with his indestructible ‘Cypher,’ a plasma charged weapon that can take on a number of properties, all while performing breakneck acrobatic jumps and mid-air flips. Players can also hit enemies with a surprise Kunai attack, call on support companions for some extra muscle or use the climb sickle to gain the high ground when getting the drop on a foe becomes necessary.
Mastering Strider’s signature moves is key and once players are comfortable pulling off acrobatic jumps and mid-air flips in order to slice their way through hundreds of enemies, Strider offers plenty more fun for the ultimate ninja hero to participate in. The game offers a new “speed run” feature called Beacon Run that puts the players skills to the test. This mode is a race style feature that tasks players with hitting consecutive checkpoints while slicing through enemies in the shortest amount of time. Double Helix also threw in a Survival Mode that tests players’ combat skills with a variety of different item and ability load outs, as waves of progressively difficult and diverse enemies converge on Strider Hiryu.
This has been one game that I have been keeping my eye on since it was first announced last year and from all reports, it looks to be living up to fans of the original series’ expectations.
