The other day the fine folks at Nemory Studios PM’d me on twitter to take a look at their app “Super AdBlock” for the iPhone and other iOS devices. Nemory Studios is a very popular BlackBerry app developer and if they keep pumping out apps for iOS devices like Super AdBlock they are going to become well known for that as well.
Super AdBlock is an ad blocking app for Safari. It’s so easy to set up that you might think at first that it’s not working, but I can attest that it does work.
Setup is so Easy
After downloading the app you tap on the icon and the main screen for the app comes up. From this screen you click on the Open Settings link which opens the settings tab for the iPhone. Then from there you click on Safari and inside the safari setting you click on “Content Blockers”. Once you’re in the content blockers page you should see Super Ad Block toggle switch as long as it is installed properly on your iPhone. Toggle the on/off switch to on (green is showing) and you are all set. From there you can enjoy almost all of your favorite websites without the nuisance of ads.
Testing the App
To test the apps usefulness I launched Safari after setting up Super Adblock and loaded up a few websites with the ad blocking setting turned off. These are sites I know have tons of ads on them. I took note of where the ads were on those sites and then closed my browser. Then I went into Safari’s settings and turned Super AdBlock on. I then reloaded the sites with all the ads and noted that the ads were GONE! I tried this with several sites and it worked every time.
The YouTube Issue
One of the small issues I have with Super Adblock is that even though it blocks the ads that load up it doesn’t block the amount of time you have to wait for that ad that would have been there had it loaded. So for example if the ad would have been 30 seconds then the video that you are trying to watch loads 30 seconds after you try to watch it. If the ad is longer then you would wait that amount of time before you video loads. I call this an issue because it’s not really a problem. The YouTube video still runs but you just have to wait for it. To me it’s not a deal breaker.
My overall opinion of Super AdBlock for the iPhone is that it does the job it’s meant to do. If you are the type of person that is reall
