It’s time to hit the links for a third time with the release of Super Stickman Golf 3. The sequel came out in 2013, and three years later, there’s still room for a new arcade golf game. The Super Stickman series is all about taking traditional golf, and infusing it with crazy courses, power-ups, and a quick overall flow. The third edition of the game features 20 brand new courses, a continuation of the real time and turn based online multiplayer, and new power-ups, characters, and hats.
Super Stickman Golf 3 picks up where the sequel left off, and offers more of the outstanding style. There are a few tweaks to the formula, but the core game of timing up the power of your shot, aiming for specific regions of a hole, and watching the ball interact with the environment is still outstanding. The 20 new courses are exquisitely designed to offer a great balance of fun and challenge. There’s nothing quite like nailing a shot so that it lands in a small crevice for the ball to roll past various hazards all the way to the hole. The course components of the second installment are included allowing you to contend with sticky regions, portals, anti-gravity sections, magnets, and more. Each course plays so differently, and each individual hole delivers a fresh challenge.
One of the biggest additions in Super Stickman Golf 3 is the ability to add spin to your ball with a slider that replaces the shot button while the ball is in the air. The spin can help you sink longer distance shots, and having access to spin allows for all new hole layouts. Spin can keep a ball on a precariously placed platform, or push over a bump to roll significantly closer to the hole. It’s an intuitive implementation, and while it could make the whole game easier, the hole designs are changed, so that’s not the case. Super Stickman Golf 3 is a great single player experience as you aim for ten under par on a nine hole course with potential hole in ones and quadruple bogeys to contend with. The online multiplayer is a great inclusion to play turn based, one hole at a time, or play live race mode. The race mode takes the number of shots out of the equation, and it’s simply first to the hole with two to four player. The free aspect of the third installment allows for a larger pool of players to connect with live.
Super Stickman Golf 3 is free to play with a single $2.99 in-app purchase to unlock the premium edition. You can fully enjoy the game for free, though there are some nice tweaks in the premium edition including downloadable courses. No matter what you choose, there’s just so much enjoyment awaiting you in Super Stickman Golf 3. The developers have done an amazing job in maintaining what made the original so good, and further enhancing it. The third edition is virtually flawless with the only possible complaint being that it’s quite similar to Super Stickman Golf 2. That isn’t necessarily a bad thing, though it would be nice to see more new course mechanics rather than seeing more portals, magnets, and sticky surfaces. No matter how you look at Super Stickman Golf 3, it’s one of the best iOS games around that nails every aspect.
Super Stickman Golf 3 (Free, Universal) is an absolute must have that is a true hole in one.
