If you do not know what Tether is, then you probably never knew what happened with that phenomenal app which allowed users to tether the iPhone’s 3G connectivity to any other device of your choice. Apple, first allowed the app to be sold on the App Store, but later on, in about 20 hours, brought it down citing legal issues.
Of course, once people understood the real power of the application, everyone needed it.Tether for iPhone was a great app because it lets you get connected via your laptop through iPhone’s 3G data plan! To those who are familiar with the Aircard, Tether should be called the perfect one-time solution which will keep you connected no matter where you are, through your smartphone’s data services.
Now, Tether iPhone without jailbreaking is possible and that too, this does not require any download! A HTML5 Web App for Tether iPhone has been released just a few days back which has already grown very popular. The online web service solves two problems – you need not download any app, and you need not have to jailbreak your device.
The Tether web service is presently $15 per year through the end of the next week. After this, it will cost $30 per year.
Tether is not just for iPhone though. It also comes for Android and BlackBerry models.
The popularity of the Tether app is because quite a lot of people do not have the facility to connect to Wi-Fi Hotspots during their commute because that could either be very costly, or they could be going on routes that do not have Wi-Fi hotspots all too often. Seamless internet connectivity gets hit then and they have to rely on the smartphone alone for browsing.
But with the 3G tethering as done by Tether, the issue is resolved. You can connect your laptop or netbook to iPhone, and with Tether, tether the 3G data between iPhone and laptop. This way, you will be browsing on your laptop through the data of iPhone!
For the moment there seems to be no legal issues with tethering because companies have no rules / agenda regarding tethering. They do not, however, officially support such activity on their network.
