Multiplerumors have pointed to the iPhone being taller to account for the 4″ screen size, but we didn’t expect it would shed an inch or two around the midsection. A rumor out of Chinese newspaper Apple Daily (by way of blog Apple.pro) suggests that the iPhone will come it at a svelte 7.6mm thickness, a full 1mm thinner than Samsung’s Galaxy S III, and 1.7mm thinner than the iPhone 4S. The incredibly thin Droid RAZR comes in at 7.1mm, for comparison. While thinness in a phone may be desirable, there’s a point at which it gets to be too thin to really manage well, which is how I felt about the Droid RAZR. Here’s hoping that whatever Apple manages to accomplish with thinness in the next iPhone that it remains solid in the hand.
As with all rumors, we suggest taking this one with a grain of salt. Sure, we expect the next iPhone to be thinner than the iPhone 4S, but shaving nearly 2mm off the device may be a bit of a stretch. We’ll know more in early September when Apple is rumored to take the wrappings off the next iPhone.
