A few years ago, Twitter decided to effectively kill all of the third-party apps that made the service so popular. They did this by limiting the API, as well as limiting tokens for developers. Limiting the tokens was a big deal for developers, as each user uses a token. Which effectively meant that Twitter was keeping these apps from hitting the big time. However, that hasn’t stopped developers from creating their own third-party apps for Twitter. We’ve seen a few great ones like Falcon Pro, Talon, Fenix, and many others. Now we have Flamingo.
There’s not much that is special about Flamingo, in comparison to the other third-party Twitter apps already available on Android. However, it does have a fully functioning theme engine. There are a few themes that are already built into the app, but it does give you the ability to create your own themes as well. On top of that, you can also theme individual accounts – and yes that means Flamingo does support multiple Twitter accounts. While we’ve had theming on other apps, we haven’t had it to this extent.
Outside of the robust theming that is included in Flamingo, you also have the ability to view GIFs and images in your timeline. A feature that just about every Twitter app has, even the official one. You can also add GIFs into your Tweets, and using the hover preview, you are able to quickly preview photos and user profiles. This is done by long-pressing on the profile icon or image. Of course, you also have your standard muting capabilities and much more. It’s a fully functioning Twitter app, even though it is listed as beta.
While Flamingo is technically in Beta, it’s not using Google Play’s beta feature. Which means you don’t need to opt-in to try the app. Flamingo will cost you $0.99. Flamingo was developed by the developers behind Weather Timeline, which has been a pretty popular weather app. There are no other in-app purchases, so you just pay the $0.99 to download the app, and you’re all set to use it as much or as little as you’d like.
