As the baseball postseason kicks off, Thuuz presents a championship app for sports fans all over the world. With a new redesign, this game rating and statistics app is set to transform how we watch sports. By using algorithms and monitoring social media activity, Thuuz gauges the ‘excitement level’ of a game, in real time. Each game is rated from 1 to 100, allowing users to tune in when things heat up.
US sports such as baseball, ice hockey and football are covered. As are others such as soccer (both US and European), rugby, tennis and cricket. But is this enough to justify keeping an eye on your phone or tablet while watching your favourite team? Yes. Here’s why.
On Home Soil
The main section of Thuuz is the ‘Guide’. This is a horizontal, scrollable list of games. There are previously played games, ones which are live on TV right now, and games that have yet to be played. Essentially, this view acts as your schedule for the coming week or so.
Past, present and future games with their excitement scores
Under each game (previous or live), there is a coloured line. As the game progresses, this line will continue to fill up like a loading bar. Its colour will change from a pale blue to a deep red, depending on how exciting the game is right now. And next to each game, there is a circled number. This indicates the overall game excitement rating which ranks from 1 to a 100. A deep red means “tune in, right now!”.
Excitement levels in Thuuz
You can filter which sports appear in this guide using the collapsable, left hand column. You can also prioritise your favourite teams by selecting them in your profile.
Clicking on a finished game brings up a window with four main tabs. The ‘Game’ tab brings up basic information such as the score and key game events, such as goals, injuries and exciting moments. If you plan on watching the highlights of a game later and don’t want to know the score, you can turn off visible scores in the profile settings. The ‘Stats’ tab speaks for itself.
The ‘Graph’ tab is a simple visualisation of how the excitement level changed throughout the game. Finally, the ‘Recap’ tab is a small highlight article submitted by a Thuuz expert after the game.

For US sports, highlights and game analysis are provided by ESPN. Each game has a video attached to it that plays within the app — loading time is fast and video quality is good.

Thuuz provides fantastic statistics for every sport it covers. Everything from baseball box scores to English Premier League standings. Each game has a statistical breakdown. For example, football (soccer) statistics list cards, corners, free kicks, fouls, shots at goal and ball possession among a whole myriad of others. Individual players stats can also be accessed for each sport, along with league standings.

Connecting With Thuzz
Users in the US can enter their Zip code to receive TV channel synchronisation to their device. This gives them a list of cable and satellite providers to choose their own. Each game will then have a channel number beside it to make it easier to hop between games. Unfortunately, this can’t be done outside the US, although the developers say they’re working on expanding the feature internationally.
Integrate Thuuz with your TV provider
Users can also ‘Check-In’ to games. This sends an alert out to friends (who also use Thuuz) to let them know you’re watching a great game.
Finally, Thuuz has teamed up with influential bloggers and sports pundits for the ‘Follow the Experts’ feature. This gives the alerts feature an extra human edge in determining a great game. These selected individuals rate and discuss games throughout, and post their analysis afterwards.
Real or Fantasy?
Many of us keep a fantasy league roster going throughout a season to keep things interesting, even if our own teams aren’t doing so well. Thuuz allows you to import your roster from dozens of supported fantasy league apps. This integrates your players with the alert system. Each time your player is about to play, gets injured or scores, you’ll receive an alert, instantly. But unfortunately, you can’t change around your roster from within Thuuz.
“…monitor the world of live sport to make sure sports fans never miss an exciting moment”.
And the app has fulfilled its mission spectacularly. It is really different compared to other sports apps. Even major and official league apps, such as MLB At Bat, fail when it comes to truly interacting with individual games. Thuuz’s unique rating system adds an exciting layer and has changed how I watch sports. And despite using my smartphone during games, I don’t feel like I’m missing out on the action.
Aside from the excitement tracking, in depth analysis, statistics and cross-league scores are all available through the app. Thuuz also adapts well to tablet screens, offering extra columns for more information at a glance and easily becoming the best companion you could ask for during halftime or between innings.
