Samsung has repeatedly informed the world that Tizen OS smarthpones would be released this year – sometime in the third quarter.
Now, one of the company’s first handsets based on the new OS has been confirmed. It’s the Samsung GT-I8805, codenamed Redwood. According to its UA profile, the GT-I8805 features an HD (1280 x 720) display and LTE connectivity. Sadly, there’s no way of telling what the handset looks like. Perhaps it will resemble the old Bada flagships smartphones (Wave II and Wave III) – since Tizen incorporates the Bada platform. In any case, we’ll probably have more details on the I8805 pretty soon.
Japan-based Fujitsu and NEC are planning to release Tizen handsets, too, but only starting 2014 (and probably only in they home country).
In other Samsung news, the ultra-cheap Galaxy Star Duos (pictured above) is available now – at least in India. Retailer Infibeam is selling the Galaxy Star Duos for only 4,990 INR, meaning about $90. For that kind of money you get dual SIM capabilities (obviously), Android 4.1 Jelly Bean, a 3 inch QVGA display, Wi-Fi, FM Radio, 2MP rear camera, 1GHz single core processor, 512MB of RAM, 4G B of internal memory, MicroSD card support, and a 1,200 mAh battery.
