Master developer emacberry is up to his awesome tricks again! This time he’s on an adventure to improve your experience with the native BlackBerry Media Player much like he’s done with FileScout for the File Explorer application. Meet TOMPlayer aka [T]he [O]ther [M]ediaPlayer. Witty indeed!
In keeping with the flow TOMPlayer is currently an open beta compatible with all BlackBerry Smartphones OS 4.3 to 7.0! This is a fresh product that could really use some great feedback, and remember donations are welcome and greatly appreciated!
At first I began re-writing this email in my own words, until I realized I didn’t need to recreate Matthias’ vision. He does a fantastic job himself! He got my download, that’s for sure.
Yes – I did it again… Since a few days I actually have started to use my BlackBerry (Torch) as MP3 player… well after a short while I had exactly the same feeling which I had once I got my first BlackBerry and tried to use the build in File Manager.
The default Media Player by RIM is fine when you have just a couple of Songs you would like to listen too – but once you load a longer playlist (mine is 10h+) the Media App simply fails to deliver my simple requirements (might be that my expectations are just to high?!).
When I load a playlist, then I expect that this playlist will be always open when I start the player – I expect that the app will remember the last position in my playlist – and even more – I expect that when I have stopped listening in a middle of a track, that once I start the player again that I just can start at the last position of the song.
Since all that seams to be asking for too much, I have spend the last few days in front of my Notebook and have build my own MediaPlayer which is exactly matching my expectations… So either I am the only one around who will be happy with the app – or TOMPlayer becomes very interesting for every BlackBerry owner who is using his device as MP3 player.
Since this is the first release, TOMPlayer comes with a very “basic” (other would say ugly!) GUI – but in this version I have concentrated on the Playlist functionality.
