However, there seems to be a small problem. The older crowd may have noticed that using Tinder is like going to a college bar. You might be welcomed, but the moment you try to match with someone is the moment you feel a bit out of place.
And with Valentine’s day looming, you might be interested in finding a match soon. Well, we have good news. Just as there are better places in real life for the more mature crowd to find a match, there are also dating apps better suited for slightly older soul mate searchers.
Let’s take a look, ’cause you never know at what age you’ll want to find a match. Oh, and keep these great pick-up lines ready too.
OkCupid is an OK Choice
You’re more than likely aware of OKCupid. It’s a dating site used by millions and millions of people worldwide that features a paid, premium option for anyone wanting to take their search for a match more seriously. The site features an answer/question section, pictures (seemingly an unlimited amount of pictures), an About Me profile, and a desired match section. The site has helped many, many people find love on and off the web.
More and more people on OkCupid (and other sites such as Plenty of Fish (POF)) use two different profiles. One profile contains great photos and little information, while the other contains great info and vague photos. This helps keep your public identity somewhat disguised. When you find someone you like, you can inform them of your other profile so they can get a complete idea/look at who you are. The Android and iPhone app both have rave reviews for ease of use and functionality.
However, as anyone who has been on POF, it can get a bit creepy. There seems, from the many testaments on Reddit and other social sites, to be many people on there in search of, uh, more than just a match. What you want to find is your choice. No judgements made. The site is still an effective tool for someone looking for a match, and can be perfect for the older crowd wanting to keep away from contact by the more than eager young ‘uns. You can download the Android POF and iPhone app at any time.
Find Your Time with OurTime.com
OurTime is a site that caters to the 50+ year-olds wanting to find a casual or deep relationship. The site is easy to use, even for the mature crowd that the site appeals to.
According to datingadvice.com, the site features millions of monthly visitors and a higher ratio or women to men, which is a rarity on some dating sites.
Use of the site includes a monthly fee for paying members, and includes features such as photos, video, and audio greetings — just in case you want to see and hear your potential match.
You can download the iPhone and Android app, which both seem to be fairly serviceable.
Senior People Meet Dating
As the iPhone app description says, Senior People Meet is the number one app for senior flirting, messaging, and meeting, and consists of the largest subscription of seniors wanting to start a relationship.
The app works similarly to Tinder in that you can swipe right or left based on how attractive you find that person or picture.
The app seems to work best when the bonus features are purchased, as is the case with most dating apps made for seniors or not. The search, messaging, and other features of both the iPhone and Android app seems to be user friendly and visually appealing enough.
Stitch — Find Companionship
Stitch is a great iPhone app (and soon to be Android app) that seems so cool that some young people might want to join, but can’t (theoretically). The site claims to be “the world’s leading companionship site for adults aged 50 and above,” and focuses on connecting seniors for travel and other events.
Travel is the #1 interest for Stitch members, as the site explains that the section helps people save on rooms and meet new potential friends. You can also look forward to meeting with someone for a coffee, dinner, movie, concert, or any other event, as the site focuses on connecting people based on just about any interest.
The app includes a basic membership, but member-to-member phone calls, unlimited access to Stitch community features, direct messaging, and other features requires paid membership, which, at the time of this writing, is $80 a month.
Really, if I was young enough, I’d probably use the app in hopes of hanging out with people while traveling.
As with any dating app, there are plenty of scammers and fake profiles. The better apps seem to have a handle on how to deal with these intruders and keep them from ruining the experience for others. You should always be careful, learn how to best set up your dating profile, and get the most of your dating experience, whether that’s finding true love or a fun date.
Have you found you’re too old for Tinder? What happened? Tell us about it (if you dare)!
