Android 4.4 KitKat looks and performs great, and Android L (probably Lemon Meringue Pie) promises to be even better. But even the openness and flexibility of Android can feel… dull, so it’s a good thing there are so many terrific launchers available. Tired of staring at the same old boring home screen? Freshen it up with a launcher and get what can essentially be an entirely new experience.
We haven’t talked much about launchers around these parts, though we know there are many, many, many good ones out there. Me? I’ve been using Nova Launcher Prime (recently updated to 3.1), which gives users deep control over how everything looks and performs; from the home screen to the scroll effects, and even the icons. Nova Launcher Prime is a great way to keep your device feeling fresh and get the exact look you want.
But there are other awesome alternatives out there, and we made a video listing five of our favorites, including the aforementioned Nova Launcher. Others, as we go into more detail in the video above, include Aviate, Google Now, Action and Buzz. Of course, we know covering just five doesn’t even begin to scratch the surface of launchers out there; if one of your favorites isn’t covered, let us know and we’ll try and do a follow up video.
How do you personalize your experience? Assuming you’re a Nova Prime kind of person like I am, which scroll effect did you choose? And do you have more than one dock page? That’s the thing about launchers; they offer just enough control to make every experience unique. I’m always tweaking and refining the way my home screen looks, tweaking and refining, tweaking and refining. I’m a little obsessive in that way.
Let us know what launcher you use and why in the comments down below.
