When Google unveiled Material Design back in June, the company said that it wants to offer a consistent and universal experience across mobile, tablet, and web. It means that new look and feel will come not only to Android, but also to web and Chrome apps. To show off what the next generation of web apps are like, Google put together a simple, yet beautiful trivia application called Topeka that you can download on your Android device.
Topeka is a Chrome application ported to Android. It is not on par with native applications when it comes to functionality, but offers a good glimpse at Google’s vision of the future. It is filled with colours, good-looking icons, smooth transitions, and polished animations. Little details like fading away checkboxes and animated buttons dramatically improve user experience and make us wonder what else Google has in store.
A taste of how Material Design looks and feels is probably Topeka’s biggest feature. In addition to gorgeous visuals, the application allows you to take a few knowledge tests from various areas – from music to history to geography. When you’re done, you can upload your score to the web and see how you compare to the competition in the global leaderboards.
