Train Conductor launched back in December of 2009 delivering fast paced strategy action set on train tracks. Your job is to manage the train traffic by rerouting trains for each train to avoid one another, and reach its proper destination. Train Conductor 2 amplified the series with a USA theme, and now there’s Train Conductor World: European Railway as the third installment in the series. Train Conductor World: European Railway delivers a similar fast paced strategy style, only it has been enhanced in seemingly every way including the amount of action on screen.
The European edition doesn’t just change the map, but also introduces a brand new 3D design that is oozing with polish. The game is absolutely gorgeous to see in motion with each train rolling across the track that you can form with your fingertip. Each area you play in gives you a set of numbered train tracks to manage, and each incoming train is set to deliver to a specific numbered track. You need to drag from the current train path to the destination train path to lead a specific train, and you can create a merging track wherever you want. The challenge comes in when there are multiple trains to manage at once which are usually heading in opposite directions, and you need to make sure your mergers don’t lead to collisions.
Train Conductor World: European Railway provides a map of cities across Europe with each location delivering a different track set-up. There’s a fresh challenge at each of the 11 locations, and there are also three levels of difficulty per location with a day/night cycle too. The game features revolving objectives, and each one you complete helps you unlock new track pieces to expand your map across Europe. The locations not only change the tracks, but also fit the setting of the location, and there are great details including reflective water in the canals of Amsterdam, the Arc De Triomphe in Paris, and the peak of the Matterhorn. It’s a joy to interact with each location, and you always get to see the tracks come to life with multiple trains at once, and each track that you drag into place.
Train Conductor World: European Railway is fun above all else with very well balanced chaos management. It’s effortless to pick up and play with the drag the track style, and yet it becomes nice and challenging with multiple trains on the tracks. You have the option to tap on a train to stop it temporarily, but you can also strive for bonus stars by not stopping a train on its journey. The game is free to play with optional in-app purchases to customize the look of your trains, or quickly buy train tracks to expand your railway network. It’s all optional, though it can be a bit of a grind to unlock new locations when playing for free. You can play as much as you want for free, and the game will keep you engaged to earn your upgrades just from the fun you’re having.
Train Conductor World: European Railway (Free, Universal) delivers entertaining challenge and enjoyment for iOS that is well worth picking up.
