S4 Does Not Turn On
Problem:I noticed a strange problem with my Galaxy S4 – it was working perfectly fine today until it suddenly turned off and I can’t seem to do anything. It does not respond to charging , I tried to restart it holding the volume up key with the home and power button , I tried to remove the battery for a few minutes , to connect it to a PC ,but nothing is actually working – it is completely dead. Could you please give me an advice on how to turn it on back again. I don’t think it is a battery problem either, because that is my second one and it is quite new . Thank you in advance.
Solution: If you are sure that the battery is working fine then try taking it out first then press and hold the power button for at least a minute. Reinsert the battery then try turning on your phone. If it doesn’t turn on then this may already be a hardware related problem. I suggest you bring your phone to an authorized service center and have it checked.
S4 Shows Logo Screen Then Shuts Down
Problem:Once my phone unexpectedly shut down whilst in use I tried to turn it back on again. It showed the logo screen for a few seconds and it shut itself down again. I tried charging it and the battery screen showed that it had a full battery. Please get back In contact as soon as possible.
Solution: The first thing you need to do is to take out your phone battery ( and the microSD card if you have one installed). Press and hold the power button for a minute to completely discharge your phone circuit and clear its RAM. Reinsert the battery (leave the microSD out) then try turning on your phone.
If the phone does not turn on connect it to its wall charger for 20 minutes. While still connected to the charger try to turn your phone on.
If the problem persists then attempt to wipe the cache partition of your phone.
If the above troubleshooting steps fail then you should consider doing a factory reset as this issue may be caused by a corrupt phone software. Make sure to only perform this procedure if you have recently made a backup of your phone data.
S4 Battery Life Low When Listening To Music
Problem:I have a 3 month old phone but the battery runs down in half a day when I listen to music already downloaded or when I listen to the radio but when it’s turned on and not in use it lasts much longer is this normal?
Solution: If you are listening to music that is stored locally and not streamed over the Internet then your battery life should last longer than half a day. For comparison purposes a fully charged S4 battery is able to playback a video file for more than 11 hours before becoming fully drained. That’s around 4 – 5 movies that you can watch on a single charge.
Since your battery life improves if you are not using the phone then the first thing that comes in mind that may be causing this problem is corrupt data. Try clearing the cache and data of the music player app you are using as well as the FM radio app. You should follow this up by wiping the cache partition of your phone.
S4 Does Not Turn On
Problem:My phone will not turn on. If I charge a battery externally and put it in the phone then plug it into the charger it will come on then say there’s only 1-5% battery left and get really hot on the back where it says Samsung and the camera( the motherboard area) then it shuts off. I am wondering am I able to fix this if not is there anyway I can get the data off my phone? I already checked it’s not a battery or charging port issue.
Solution: The heat that you can feel at the back part of your phone is an indication that there is something wrong with the phone hardware. The best way to resolve this issue is to bring your phone to an authorized service center and have it checked.
As for the question regarding the retrieval of your phone data you can try to connect your phone using a USB cord to a computer running on Kies. Pres on your phone power button until Kies can detect your phone. If your phone can be detected then you will be able to make a backup of its contents.
S4 Charges Slowly With Certain Chargers
Problem: Charges very slowly with certain chargers but quicker with other chargers, sometimes stays on 2% while plugged into charger, battery drains extremely fast, turns itself off no matter how much % battery it has and won’t restart until I remove battery for half hour or so then plug charger in for another half hour or so before i turn it on back on, lags really bad, freezes heaps, data stops working, mms wont send unless I restart phone, can’t make or receive texts or calls unless I remove battery for half an hour.
Solution: It looks like your phone has multiple issues. The best way to proceed in this case is to backup your phone data then do a factory reset.This allows your phone to start fresh and will at least resolve the freezing problem as well as the data and messaging issue. After the phone has been reset completely make sure to check if the phone APN settings matches the one your carrier is using so that you will be able to send and receive MMS as well as connect to your mobile data.
Regarding the charging issue of your phone you should consider using a new battery and see if the phone will hold a stable charge.
As for the amount of time it requires to charge your phone this will depend on the USB cord and the type of charger used. Ideally you should use the USB cord and wall charger that came with your phone. Sometimes you will need to replace the USB cord since it gets damaged easily especially if it is stressed (usually by bending).
S4 Not Charging
Problem: I updated my s4 last week to 5.0.1. A couple of days later I noticed it wasn’t charging. Later I discovered it would charge if i didn’t switch it off but will not show any indication of charge ie the bolt on the battery or the light indicator. Just that the percentage will rise although very slowly. And then it discharges very quickly.
Solution: The first thing you should do is to check your phone charging port for any signs of dirt or debris. Clean it if necessary using a can of compressed air or cotton bud dipped in alcohol.
The USB cord that you are using can also have an effect on the way your phone charges. If this cord is damaged then you may experience slow charging issues or your phone may not charge at all. Try replacing this USB cord and see if the problem gets resolved. You should also try to replace the wall charger to check if this is causing the problem.
Finally, you should also verify if your phone battery is causing the problem by replacing it with a new one.
S4 Stuck In Bootloop
Problem:I’ve just recently got the issue where my phone restarts automatically and usually I would just hold down the power button to stop it which takes around a minute and a half to stop it. This occurred for awhile until today where it did not stop restarting. Once the battery is in, and there is life in the battery, the phone gives the logo, goes black, gives the logo and continues to do so. When the charger is plugged into the phone, the flashing logo stops but a battery with a white energy bolt shows up repeatedly. This does not go away until i remove the charger, but once I do that, the flashing logo remains. I’ve done the tips suggested in this link, where I tried holding down the volume up key + home button + power button but no solutions. It would just continue it’s regular flashing logo. I’ve been patient with it, and the problem has been continuing for over 2 and a half hours. Could I please get some help with this?
Solution: If you have already attempted to enter the recovery mode of your phone to no avail then what you should do next is to take out the phone battery and the microSD card if your phone has one installed. Press and hold the power button for at least a minute then reinsert the battery but leave out the microSD card. Press the power button and check if your phone turns on.
If the issue persists try to wipe the cache partition of your phone.
If the above troubleshooting steps fail then you should consider doing a factory reset. Make sure to only do this if you have recently backed up your phone data.
