S5 Battery Drain Even If Phone Is Off
Problem: Hi Droid Guy! I am having issues with the battery or maybe my phone in general but I charge my phone to 100% sometimes before I go to bed. I take it off and turn it off for the rest of the night. The next morning, I wake up and its either at 96% or 97%. Wifi is off. I’ve done a test to see if my battery actually drains when its off. Today I had it at 28% and it went down to 24%. Can you help me solve this problem? Please and Thank You!
Solution: If your battery drains even if your phone is switched off then chances are the problem is with the battery itself. The phone may not be able to hold the correct charge anymore and it loses its charge even if not used.
Before replacing the battery though you should first verify if the issue is caused by software related problems. There are cases where a phone can provide a wrong reading of the battery and this is what you should check first.
Backup your phone data then do a factory reset. Once the factory reset has completed do not install any apps or update any of your existing apps yet. Charge your phone until it reaches 100% then turn if off overnight. Turn your phone back on in the morning and check if the battery level stays at 100%. If the issue still persists then the phone battery may be faulty. I suggest getting a new battery this time.
S5 Not Charging With Powerbank
Problem:The phone won’t charge using an Anker PowerCore – 20100mAh with an output of 5v/4.8A … Any reason why?
Solution: Try using another USB cord when connecting the powerbank to your phone as this cord is usually the suspect in cases like this.
The Anker powerbank that you are using should have a switch on the side. Press this switch to check the power level status of the powerbank. You may need to charge the powerbank first if its power level is too low.
You should also try using the powerbank with other devices and see if it really works.
S5 Fast Battery Drain After Software Update
Problem:I had a software update on my phone. After the update my battery will dies in a couple of hours. Seems like it dies faster each time. Please help.
Solution: Sometimes when a phone undergoes a software update an issue or two will pop up. One of the common issues that people experience is the battery drain problem. To resolve this you need to check if there are any new updates first. The app in your phone may not work properly with the software version you are using and its developers may have released an update to fix this.
You should also check if any unnecessary service is turned on. This includes Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, mobile data, and location just to name a few.
This issue can also be caused by corrupt phone data. If this is the case then wipe the cache partition of your phone.
Finally, if the above steps fail to resolve the problem then backup your phone data and do a factory reset.
S5 Drains Fast Charges Slow
Problem:I have just recently started having battery issues. It drains fast and charges slow. So slow in fact if it’s plugged in while in use the status keeps dropping. And takes hours to charge up. I have tried 2 different batteries, one is brand new. 2 different chargers and cables, one is the oem charger and cable, other one is an orico fast charger but i only have a micro usb 2.0 cable plugged in it. I used the galaxy charging app. Reference and average have said between 300 to 1200 mA when i checked, max 1800 mA. I had kitkat running on it yesterday and tried factory reset, But that didn’t work. So i updated to lollipop..ugh.. and still having same issue. I cleaned the charge port with a nylon brush and it may be slightly better. Isn’t dropping while plugged in and in use but not going up either. This is where i got a reading of 300 mA on the charge app. Last night said 1200 before i went to lollipop. Any other suggestions?
Solution: It looks like you have already performed all of the necessary troubleshooting steps that can be done on your end. I suspect that this may already be a hardware related problem. If this is the case then you should bring your phone to an authorized service center and have it checked.
S5 Charges Slowly
Problem:Hi Droid Team, I have noticed that my phone has been charging very slowly since the past few days whereas its discharging faster. For instance last night it took approx. 8 hrs to charge from 1 to 100% and as I write it’s already gone down by 1%. I have noticed this issue since the past 3 days. I have not been able to zero this issue to any app in particular but what i have also noticed is if I work on mobile while charging it infact discharges faster than charging. Would appreciate if you can highlight the problem or guide me through steps i need to perform to ascertain the root cause. Or do let me know if you require any further information on this. Thanks for support on this.
Solution: You should check first if an app is causing this problem by starting your phone in Safe Mode. In this mode only the pre-installed apps are allowed to run while the third party apps you downloaded are disabled. Observe the charging and discharging status of your phone in this mode. If the issue disappears then it’s probably caused by an app. Find out what app this is and uninstall it.
Another factor that can affect the charging speed of your phone is the USB cord. If this cord is damaged then you won’t be able to charge the phone properly. I suggest you replace the USB cord and make sure to use the wall charger that came with your phone when charging it.
Dirt present on the phone charging port can also have an effect in the charging process. Carefully inspect your phone charging port and if needed clean it with a can of compressed air or cotton bud dipped in alcohol.
If your battery is faulty it will charge longer and drain quickly. You should eliminate any battery related problems by replacing it with a new one.
S5 Does Not Charge Battery After Getting Wet
Problem:The phone does want to charge once connected to the charger, I dropped the phone in some water in the shower, don’t know if that’s the reason why ? The phone is waterproof from what I’ve been told. Plz help me understand what’s wrong with my phone.
Solution: The phone is waterproof to some extent. Water however can still enter the device if the cover of the charging port is not secured properly. Try using another charger and USB cord when charging your phone. If your phone still does not charge then you may want to try replacing the battery.
If the issue persists then you should bring your phone to an authorized service center and have it checked.

Solution: Have you tried using another charger and USB cord when charging your phone? If your phone still does not charge then check the charging port for signs of dirt or debris. Clean if necessary using a can of compressed air or cotton bud dipped in alcohol.
If the issue persists then bring your phone to an authorized service center for checking.
