The Samsung Galaxy S units sold by T-Mobile in the UK are now starting to receive the update to Android 2.3 Gingerbread. Finally.
T-Mobile customers who’ve bought their Samsung Galaxy S devices direct from the operator must be very happy just about now. Sure, this update comes more than seven months after Gingerbread was announced, but at least it’s finally available. In fact, some T-Mobile Galaxy S users have reported receiving the update as far back as four days ago, but today the operator has officially announced that the update is available. That announcement came on T-Mobile’s discussion forum, but unfortunately didn’t bring any additional details.
Therefore we’re forced to assume that the update is over-the-air and Samsung Galaxy S owners throughout the UK will get notified that the update is available. Hopefully that’s the case. Better yet, hopefully those of you who own a Galaxy S on T-Mobile have already got the update up and running.
Despite the obvious timing issues, Samsung has to be commended for how they’ve supported the Galaxy S. After all, it’s already gotten two updates to new Android versions. Sure, the Froyo update was also late (by a lot), but at least Samsung did push these updates through eventually. That’s not something that you see all the time in the Android world, sadly.
