Mo Versi, HTC’s Vice President of Management, has confirmed that the company is aiming to start rolling out its Android 4.4.3 update to unlocked and international versions of the HTC One M8 later this week. The same 4.4.3 update is already available for customers with Sprint.
You might be wondering why the flagship won’t be making the jump straight to the slightly newer Android 4.4.4, considering that the Google Play Edition version of the handset has already been updated. The reason is that HTC’s engineers have been able to incorporate all of the security fixes from 4.4.4 into the upcoming 4.4.3 update, which is all that the 4.4.4 update included anyway.
The added implication here is that the One M8 won’t need updating to Android 4.4.4, meaning that the next update will be Android L. Although we are still not exactly sure when Android L will be released, HTC has pledged to update its handsets within 90 days.
Unlocked and international HTC One M8 owners should keep their eyes out for the OTA notification towards the end of this, while customers with other carriers will have to wait a few more weeks for the update to come through.
