Previously released exclusively for Nvidia's Shield TV platform, Never Alone is a platformer that is being released generally on Google Play late next month. In Never Alone, players will assume the role of Nuna, a small girl who is striving to restore balance within the "eternal blizzard". Nuna is accompanied by a fox that, in an interesting twist, players can also control.
UPDATE: Thursday, June 23rd 1:58 AM, PST: If you have been waiting to try Never Alone on your mobile device, you may be able to do that now. Never Alone Ki Edition is now available to download in the Play Store. This version is supposed to be compatible with more devices, whereas originally, it was available only on the Nvidia Shield devices and a controller was required. No controller is required with this version. You can download the game for $4.99 and there are no in-app purchases. Let us know if the game is compatible with your device. Currently, it is not available for my LGV10, but is available for my Shield Tablet. We are curious to know how many devices can play it. It could be that more devices will be added in the future. The link to download the game can be found at the end of this article.
When playing in the single-player mode, players can toggle between the two characters and utilize the abilities unique to each, such as climbing rope and moving heavier objects for Nuna, or climbing through smaller passages or scaling vertical surfaces for Fox. The narrative is based upon legends and folk stories of the Iñupiaq people, and players can unlock thirty minutes of interviews from Iñupiaq people. More about our coverage can be found here. Our news isn't so much about the gameplay as it is the fact that it's being released to most of Android now.
Whereas the game required a controller when it was exclusive to Shield TV, the developers have since added virtual controls to the game, as well as a new hint system, that should make things both a bit easier to those without controllers, as well as more accessible. They've also tweaked the graphics, for better optimization.
Never Alone is set to be released to everyone on June 23rd, and assuming that there's no change in pricing will cost a flat $14.99.
