Verizon’s Motorola Droid 2 Global was supposed to get updated to Android 2.3 Gingerbread last month, but the update was pulled at the last minute because of an Exchange encryption issue. So after waiting for almost nine months (since Gingerbread went live), owners of the Droid 2 Global understandably weren’t happy.
Yet it seems that during this time Motorola was hard at work fixing the aforementioned issue, and the update looks like it’s now finally ready to be rolled out. The new version is 4.5.608 and Droid Life has received the new Verizon support document. The full list of what the update brings new is available in this PDF.
From when a support doc for an update is available it usually takes Verizon about a week or two to actually get round to releasing the new software. So the wait is almost over if you have a Droid 2 Global. Do, however, take into account the fact that the update will come over-the-air (OTA), and, as such, its rollout will be staggered. Still, in a few weeks your Droid 2 Global will probably get its first taste of Gingerbread. And if you’ll then be able to ignore the elephant in the room (that Ice Cream Sandwich will probably launch by then or in a short while after that), you’ll be just fine.
