Verizon is now allowing customers to buy the new Motorola Droid Ultra and Motorola Droid Maxx online. Unfortunately, it’s not clear if the largest US carrier can send you the handsets right away, as it mentions that both “will ship by August 27.” Still, you’ll probably find the new Droids in brick-and-mortar stores starting today.
The Droid Ultra costs $199.99 on contract, or $599.99 without any agreement. It’s a Verizon-excusive smartphone that runs Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean, and features: LTE connectivity, NFC, a 5 inch Super AMOLED display with 1280 x 720 pixels, splash resistant case, 10MP rear camera, 2MP front-facing camera, 2GB of RAM, dual-core 1.7GHz Snapdragon S4 Pro processor, 16GB of internal memory, and a 2,140 mAh battery.
The Droid Maxx is largely similar to the Ultra, but it’s thicker – because it accommodates a 3,500 mAh battery. Its internal memory is 32GB. The Maxx costs $299.99 on contract, or $699.99 off contract.
The smaller, cheaper Motorola Droid Mini should be available at Verizon starting August 29, for as low as $99.99.
Starting August 22, Verizon will sell another new smartphone: the HTC One ($199.99 on contract). Moreover, the largest US carrier may also launch the Moto X pretty soon – on August 23, or August 29. Like the HTC One and the Droid Ultra, the Moto X should be offered for $199.99 on contract.
