That said, if you’re in Canada, at least you know when your countdown to the Galaxy Nexus will end. December 8 is when both Bell and Virgin Mobile will launch the new Google phone, and we’ve known that for quite a while now.
So to make the wait easier, Bell has decided to throw a Twitter-based contest starting tomorrow, December 1. What’s in it for you? The ability to receive your purchased Galaxy Nexus before December 8, when the official launch happens. In other words, you can be one of the first 100 people in Canada to get their new Nexus.
What you have to do is very simple. Just go to this website starting tomorrow at 10 am EST (7 am PST), sign in with Twitter, and send the pre-populated tweet. As Bell says that this is a virtual lining up of sorts, you’ll need to keep going back to Bell’s special website every hour until 10 pm EST (7 pm PST), and send a new tweet every time. If you forget to tweet, you’ll be bumped to the end of the line. If you finish within the first hundred people, you’re guaranteed to get the Samsung Galaxy Nexus before December 8 (though Bell didn’t say exactly when).
Now if you’re in the US, unfortunately we still don’t have an official release date for you, but we have the official press shots for Verizon’s Galaxy Nexus. Just so you can drool some more while you wait for it to become available.
As you can see, the Google branding on the back has been inexplicably removed (after all, this is a Google Nexus device, right?) and replaced with Verizon’s logo and that 4G LTE branding. Having that, Samsung, and Google all on the same back side of the phone would probably have cluttered things a lot, but it still is odd to see a Google Nexus device without the Google brand. Maybe this is the start of a new trend, who knows.
The images come from a Verizon XML file, so they are clearly legit. The back cover is slightly darker than that found in the GSM/HSPA version of the phone, but it still looks alike enough for you to not be able to tell the difference unless you have both handsets.
Hopefully Verizon will finally announce this thing’s release date soon.
