Australia has become the home of the world’s first Android retail store. Its name? Androidland, of course!
A Melbourne-based partnership between Telstra and Google, Androidland is decked out in green space age decor and comes complete with a full-sized screen for customers to play Angry Birds on.
Handsets from all the major Android manufacturers are to be sold through the store, although Gartner mobile analyst Phillip Redman believes the mega-shop’s main aim is brand awareness rather than money making.
“I don’t think anyone expects major revenue from the retail channel, but it is becoming a necessity,” Mr Redman commented to Wired.
“With the number of phones, tablets and net books running Android, as well as the partner support, it makes sense.”
If any Life Of Android readers live in Australia and pop down to Androidland, send us a photo and we’ll feature the best on the site.
