Google’s dipped a toe into the salty, shark-infested waters of social networking before with Buzz. Buzz didn’t do so well. Now Google has decided that it’s nailed social networking and has popped Google+ into a closed private Beta. Here are a few choice details…
You can download Google+ for free as of today, however, it’s still firmly in development, so you’ll have to wait a while before you can avail yourself of its features, or if you know someone in Google’s inner circle, perhaps you can get yourself a Beta invite.
Google’s official blog details the individual elements of Google+ but here’s a snapshot:
+Circles:let you share the right things with just the right people.
+Sparks: Sparks delivers a feed of highly contagious content from across the Internet. On any topic you want, in over 40 languages.
+Hangouts: Combines the casual meetup with live multi-person video, Hangouts lets you stop by when you’re free, and spend time with your Circles. Face-to-face-to-face:
+Huddle: is super-fast group messaging for everyone in your circles.
+Mobile: Incorporates the following…
+Location, location, location: Add your location to every post. (Or not. It’s up to you.)
+Instant upload: While you’re snapping pictures, and with your permission, Google+ adds your photos to a private album in the cloud. This way they’re always available across your devices—ready to share as you see fit.
