Well, that’s one way to bring a fan-favorite video game to those asking for it. Virtua Fighter 5: Final Showdown has been confirmed for a release on the PlayStation 4, but this news comes with a huge caveat attached to it by the ankles. You’ll have to buy Yakuza 6 to enjoy it.
What, how so? Well, in several of the more recent games, Kazuma Kiryu and his ilk are able to swing by in-game arcades called Basic Play Spots, and it is here where players can enjoy classic arcade games. For me, this is the equivalent of Ryo throwing in a few rounds of Space Harrier or Super Hang-On at his local arcade in Shenmue, but emulation has now gotten to the point where SEGA can cram in entire PlayStation 3-equivalent arcade games.
Virtua Fighter 5: Final Showdown will be one of the choices in these Basic Play Spots in Yakuza 6, as listed by Famitsu with the rest of the new additions.
Virtual Fighter 5: Final Showdown – You can now play the latest version of Virtual Fighter 5 on PlayStation 4. There is a two-player mode, too.
Puyo Puyo – This also has a two-player mode.
Sega Retro Arcade Games – Outrun, Super Hang-On, Space Harrier, Fantasy Zone.
Of course, there is also something about Live Chatting with fake girls and hostess clubs, but I don’t care. Between Virtua Fighter and Space Harrier, I doubt I’ll reach the end of Yakuza 6’s story any time soon.
