Vodafone UK has officially announced earlier today that the update to Android 2.3.4 Gingerbread for Google Nexus One smartphones it has sold is now available. The update has of course been out for a long while for those of you who bought their Nexus Ones direct from Google, so this only applies to whoever purchased the device from Vodafone in the UK.
The update brings you to build GRJ22, and comes with UI enhancements, the new Android keyboard, improved power management, Internet calling support via SIP, and multiple camera management (front and back).
The software update will reach your device over the air, which means that the Nexus One will, at some point in the near future, notify you that there’s an update available, and you go from there. You won’t be needing a computer around to perform the update, thankfully.
Amazingly, Vodafone still sells the Google Nexus One, and that’s certainly not something that can be said of all devices this old. The first ‘pure Google’ smartphone is now free with Pay Monthly plans starting at £26. If for some reason you want to get one, go to Vodafone and do just that.
