Since the iPhone X was announced last year, there have been persistent rumors that the iPad would undergo a similar redesign. Specifically, many pundits said Apple would shrink the bezels on the iPad to give it a true edge-to-edge display and jettison the Touch ID Home button and replace it with a Face ID system like the one found on the iPhone X.
Many were disappointed then, when earlier this year Apple unveiled its new standard iPad. And while that iPad did offer new support for the Apple Pencil, it still retained its same form factor.
But things are likely different for the iPad Pro–Apple’s line of advanced iPads. Matter of fact, next week at Apple’s annual autumn event we are likely to see new iPad Pros with thinner bezels and Face ID.
And thanks to allegedly leaked schematics of the device we have a good idea what it may look like. Tech blog MySmartPrice has taken those schematics and designed renderings what the new iPad Pros will look like based on them. Check out the renderings.
As you can see, the new iPad Pros–if the renderings are correct–look freaking GORGEOUS. Gone is the Home button and Touch ID. Gone are the wide bezels. Make no mistake about it–if these renderings are accurate, this will be the best iPad Apple has ever made.
What’s more interesting about these renderings based on the leaked thematic is that the iPad Pro isn’t adopting the round corners of the iPhone X. Instead, the edges are flat, which IMHO looks sexy as hell. The last time an iPhone had flat edges was the iPhone 4–long considered on of the best iPhone designs ever.
As for other things the renders reveal, according to MySmartPrice:
“These renders also show that there is a charging port smack at the bottom middle, but there is no 3.5mm headphone jack. There are four speaker grills at each corner of the slate, with a power button placed at the right-hand corner. The upcoming tablet from Apple might roughly measure 280.6×215×5.85mm (7.77mm including the rear camera bump).”
Additionally, there are some more tweaks to the iPad design:
“The volume buttons are present on the right-hand side of the iPad Pro, but there is a strange button-like artefact present on the same side, and even @OnLeaks could not figure out what it was. The Smart Connector has been relocated and it is found right above the charging port. When you are mounting your iPad Pro on a Smart Keyboard Cover, it looks as if buyers will need to place it vertically, and the reason for that might be because the tablet cannot get unlocked via Face ID while in landscape mode.”
Are these renders correct? We don’t need to wait long to find out. Apple will be holding its annual event next Wednesday where they are sure to show off the new iPad Pros.
