Something very interesting is happening in publishing and I have the good fortune of having a front row seat. The barrier to entry to publish a new breed of digital magazine is at an all time low. In the past, if anyone wanted to publish a magazine or start a magazine of their own, it was a capital intensive exercise.
Both the printing, designing, and distribution served as barriers for most people who may have been entrepreneurial enough to make a go at publishing.
Thanks to the iPad, this has all changed.
Consuming content on the iPad, and most tablets in general, is not only a delightful experience, it is also in many ways a superior experience. I personally enjoy magazines like Cook's Illustrated and Digital Photo Magazine.
